Zwane Breaks Silence On Permanent Chiefs Coach Role

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has broken his silence on calls that he must receive the permanent head coach job at Naturena.

Zwane, 48, has taken over the reigns of the first team together with Dillon Sheppard, after Stuart Baxter left the club.

However, things have not started all that well this time around, with Amakhosi collecting two defeats against Stellenbosch FC and Golden Arrows.

Many fans, though, seem to be supportive of 10111, as he is affectionally known, and have called for the club to give him the head-coach role on a full-time basis.

Zwane has now for a first time since Baxter left spoken about his ambitions, insisting he’d grab the opportunity with both hands if the club’s leadership would put their faith in him.

“Everyone wants grow, everyone wants to be better,” he said after the Golden Arrows match.

“You’ll never be better if you don’t make mistakes, you’ll never be better if you are not in the thick of things.

“So yeah, if the opportunity comes my way, I’ll grab it with both hands, because if I want to run away from it, who else must take it?

“As South Africans and as coaches, we need to now take responsibility, that will help the country as well.”

Chiefs are already back in action on Saturday when they will face Cape Town City in their second rescheduled December fixture.

The game will be important for both teams in the race for second spot and whoever loses will likely not qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League. Chiefs currently have 39 points, two less than Cape Town City, while Royal AM sit in second spot on the log with 45 points.
