Nintendo fans finally got a sneak peek at the highly anticipated sequel to their beloved video game-inspired hit with the release of the official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday.

Set for release in April 2026, the CGI-animated adventure promises more colourful chaos and intergalactic fun with Mario, Luigi, and their friends and foes, navigating an expansive cosmic playground.

Star-Studded Voice Cast

The trailer confirms a lineup of familiar voices and new additions. Chris Pratt returns as Mario, while Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, and newcomer Brie Larson bring fresh energy to the universe. Jack Black, fans hope, will once again bring his signature musical flair, a highlight for those who loved the soundtrack from the first movie.

Social media reactions were immediate. On YouTube, the trailer garnered nearly three million views in just over 12 hours, with fans buzzing over the colourful animation and adventurous tone.

“I’m excited for the masterpiece of a song that Jack Black is going to compose for this movie,” wrote Andres Bent Solano on Facebook.

Other fans, however, raised familiar points of contention, especially regarding the accents of the iconic Mario brothers. “Would’ve been better had the bros had their Italian accents,” commented Jordany Fleury online, reflecting a long-running debate in the gaming community.

Celebrating 40 Years of Mario

This year marks a milestone for Nintendo, celebrating four decades since the release of the original Super Mario Bros. game in 1985. The enduring franchise has shaped generations of gamers, with pipes, platforms, and scowling enemies becoming instantly recognisable worldwide.

The first Super Mario Bros. movie in 2023 was a box office phenomenon, raking in over $1.3 billion, second only to Barbie. Its success cemented the trend of blockbuster video game adaptations, joining hits like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Minecraft Movie.

The Future of Nintendo on the Big Screen

The Galaxy sequel is part of Nintendo’s growing cinematic universe. Beyond Mario, the company has plans for a live-action Legend of Zelda film, scheduled for May 2027, signalling that Nintendo isn’t slowing down in bringing its iconic worlds to the silver screen.

For fans, the trailer promises nostalgia, adventure, and a playful cosmic spin on the Italian plumbers they’ve grown up loving. While debates over accents and casting continue online, one thing is clear: Mario is ready to leap back into theatres and across the stars.
