South African actor Jonathan Pienaar, known for his unforgettable roles in Yizo Yizo and Generations, has passed away at the age of 63.

The news of his death, confirmed on Monday, 10 November 2025, has left fans and colleagues across the country mourning the loss of a true talent.

Pienaar’s acting career spanned more than three decades, during which he became a household name through his work in some of South Africa’s most iconic productions.

He was celebrated for his portrayal of Leon in Binnelanders, where he starred alongside the late Bradley Olivier.

His impressive résumé also included standout performances in The Lab, Hopeville, The Queen, and several other acclaimed local dramas.

Entertainment platform Actor Spaces paid tribute to the late star with a moving message on X, writing: “For over 30 years, Jonathan Pienaar carried the heartbeat of South African storytelling, a voice of grit, soul, and honesty. He gave everything to the craft, and the craft will forever carry his name. A storyteller, a teacher, a legend whose light continues to guide. Rest in Power, Jonathan Pienaar.”

Fans have since flooded social media with tributes, celebrating Pienaar’s passion, talent, and dedication to his craft.

Many described him as one of the few actors who could embody any character with raw authenticity.
