What Ouaddou’s arrival means for Saleng

Published

on

After weeks of speculation, Orlando Pirates have confirmed Jose Riveiro’s successor: Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The Moroccan manager has already endured a season in the PSL, leading Marumo Gallants to tenth on the log, meaning he should be well versed with Monnapule Saleng’s abilities, albeit not featuring in the league since last November following a falling out between club and player.

An offseason move has seemed inevitable for the 27-year-old; however, can Ouaddou’s arrival reverse this notion?

The 46-year-old will want the best stars at his disposal, and if he feels Saleng is one of those individuals, one can only presume that he will try to calm the waters with the Bloemhof native. A fresh face with new ideas could be enough to restore peace between Saleng and Orlando Pirates.

Red flag signing

Former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper Moeneeb Josephs has expressed his displeasure at the reported arrival of striker Yanela Mbuthuma.

“Why are we looking for players from clubs that are not above the top eight [small teams]? No offence to the player that we have signed,” Josephs told SoccerBeat.

“Look at how many goals he scored last season: he scored six goals in 27 games. However, no offence to him, but how many games did he start? So, that’s like one goal every six games, pardon me if my math is off.”

“But my mind is telling me that we should be looking at the big boys [from big clubs]. We should look inside the top eight teams because outside of the top eight, there’s nothing.”

Who else should Orlando Pirates sign?
