Man nabbed with dagga worth R600,000 in Mpumalanga

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Mpumalanga after being found with dagga valued at R600,000.
Police discovered over 93 kilograms of dagga hidden in his vehicle during a routine patrol near the N4.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Mpumalanga for being in possession of dagga worth an estimated street value of R600,000.

He was apprehended on Sunday, 2 November 2025, during a routine patrol operation.

Provincial police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane said the suspect was arrested after officers from the White River Flying Squad Unit stopped and searched his vehicle.

“His arrest came as members of the unit were patrolling on the N4, just before the Lows’ Creek turnoff, when they spotted a silver Toyota Corolla heading towards Nelspruit,” said Ndubane.

“The members stopped and searched the vehicle, and upon inspection, they discovered that it was transporting dagga, 36 packs of loose dagga contained in plastic bags and one compressed block wrapped in brown tape, with a total weight of 93.6 kilograms.”

The driver was immediately placed under arrest for dealing in dagga. According to Ndubane, the suspect told officers that he was traveling from Schoemansdal and en route to the Northwest Province.

The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 3 November 2025.
