  • Authorities in Midrand, Gauteng, seized approximately R20 million worth of cocaine during a crime intelligence-led operation at a small holding in Blue Hills.
  • Investigations revealed the drugs, trafficked from a neighbouring country, were intended for Cape Town.
  • The seizure, which included around 80 kilograms of cocaine, underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to disrupt organised drug trafficking networks in South Africa.

Authorities have seized an estimated R20 million worth of cocaine during a crime intelligence-led operation at a small holding in Blue Hills, Midrand, Gauteng.

The operation took place on the evening of Tuesday, 28 October, and was carried out by a multidisciplinary team comprising the Crime Intelligence Head Office, Gauteng Organised Crime Unit, SAPS JHB K9, and members of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC).

The team acted on intelligence indicating that drugs were being stored at the property.

Investigations revealed that the cocaine had been trafficked into South Africa from a neighbouring country and was intended for distribution in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Officers discovered the drugs hidden in a storage room on the premises.

A 56-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the property, was arrested at the scene. Authorities confiscated approximately 80 kilograms of cocaine.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court later this week, facing potential charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
