‘Don’t take their lives away’

Media personality Sivuyile ‘Siv’ Ngesi shared a different approach on how the Milnerton High School bullies should be dealt with.

Commenting on the public uproar surrounding the viral video of students bullying and physically assaulting a grade 10 learner with a belt and a hockey stick, the comedian shared a video of him expressing his views about how the bullies should be punished. While Mzansi calls for them to be arrested and be stripped of their first rugby membership, Siv said: “I feel like the kids should be punished, I feel like the kids should pay the price. But I just want to address one thing, about this particular incident that fascinates me about people in the comments.

“I want those boys to be punished; they need to be punished. They need to be held accountable, I hope their parents f**k up…but what you guys are asking for, I’m not seeing the same kind of passion for someone who stole two billion rand at Tembisa hospital,” he said.

In his video clip, Siv continued to call out society’s inconsistency regarding South Africa’s rape culture, gender-based violence and criminals who murder.

“We can’t have double standards here, and I don’t believe those kids should have punishments that are gonna destroy their entire lives,” he added.

The viral video was shared on social media platforms with a heartfelt plea from the mother of the grade 10 learner.

“My son, a Grade 10 student at Milnerton High School, has been subjected to bullying, physical assault, harassment, and emotional abuse by a group of boys, including some members of the school’s Rugby First Team. These 18-year-olds, who should embody strength, discipline, and leadership, have instead chosen to intimidate and harm others. I’m speaking out — for my son, and for every student who has been silenced, dismissed, or ignored. To Milnerton High School in Cape Town: it is your duty to protect your students.” penned the mother.

Upon seeing this, Mzansi united in saying the boys should be expelled from school and be prohibited from writing their matric exams. Commenting on this, Siv said: “What the f**k, the kids should be suspended, they should do community service, they should go for anger management training, but telling me they should lose their entire lives, no guys.”
