  • Madlanga Commission has once again linked alleged underworld figure Vusi “Cat” Matlala to the 2024 kidnapping of Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga.
  • Witness C testified that evidence found at Matlala’s home matched the ransom videos sent to the victim’s family.
  • Nearly a year later, Boshoga’s family remains in anguish, with no confirmation of whether he is still alive.

The Madlanga Commission on Friday heard explosive testimony implicating controversial businessman and alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala in the kidnapping of Pretoria entrepreneur Jerry Boshoga.

According to witness C, a member of the GCI operations team, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola had instructed them to investigate Boshoga’s November 2024 abduction.

Their probe led them to Matlala’s Pretoria residence, identified as a key location in the kidnapping case.

“Further information revealed that Mr Boshoga had been kept captive at the house of Vusimuzi Matlala,” witness C told the Commission.

He testified that on 6 December 2024, his team profiled Matlala and discovered a history of criminal entanglements, prompting the need for reinforcement from the Special Task Force.

“We proceeded to the special task force offices where my commander, together with a Forensic Science Laboratory expert, joined us, and we conducted a briefing,” he said, declining to name his commander for safety reasons.

Later that day, a 20-member team descended on Matlala’s property in Pretoria.

“Upon arrival, combat members secured the premises to ensure it is safe for us to enter. Inside, we encountered two security guards, Mr Khoza and Mr Mokwana,” said the witness.

During a search of the main house, officers found a Malawian national, Yusuf Mudupanyama, who claimed to be a general worker at Matlala’s mansion.

Although Boshoga was not found on-site, investigators discovered a torn white sheet manually tied to a window, identical to one seen in ransom videos sent to Boshoga’s family.

“That made us believe that Boshoga might have been held at Matlala’s premises,” the officer testified.

“You would not expect that kind of curtain in a mansion”.

It has now been nearly a year since Boshoga’s disappearance in Centurion. His family continues to endure heartbreak, having received multiple disturbing ransom videos showing him pleading for help.

Reports indicate the kidnappers demanded R10 million for his release.

The case remains unresolved, and Boshoga’s family still has no answers about whether their son, husband and father is still alive.
