Three alleged kidnappers have been fatally shot following a confrontation with Gauteng police (GP) in Parktown.

The deceased men were intercepted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) anti-kidnapping task team while allegedly en route to commit a robbery.

Police linked the suspects to the kidnapping of a Chinese national in June 2025 and a second, attempted abduction of another businessman in Gauteng just last week.

During the intelligence-led operation in Parktown, an exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the three suspects sustaining fatal injuries. No police officers were injured in the incident.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the SAPS to dismantle sophisticated kidnapping and extortion syndicates operating within the province.
