Durban – Fifteen undocumented foreign nationals were arrested, and over 100 homeless people were taken in during an early morning raid on Monday. This was part of an integrated pre-Safer Festive Season operation spearheaded by the eThekwini district in the Durban CBD. The raid was conducted by the SAPS in collaboration with the office of KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli. With the festive season just around the corner, the police in eThekwini, together with the Office of the Premier, Correctional Services, Metro Police and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, raided the Albert Park area, which had become a hotspot for crimes such as theft from motor vehicles, smash and grab incidents, and robberies.
Bergville – Police in Bergville arrested a 33-year-old suspect just a few hours after he stabbed and killed his five family members and injured two more at Bethany in Bergville on Saturday night. The suspect is expected to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 15 October, to face five counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
Ethekwini – As part of the municipality’s continuous efforts to reduce non-revenue water, the water and sanitation unit has started a trial of installing innovative devices in parts of the city’s water distribution networks. These devices measure water volumes and pressure at any network supply point to analyse water demands. The intention is to improve water distribution and increase data quality management.
