Banyana Banyana captain Refiloe Jane has been dropped from the national team for their upcoming European games.
The reason is that she is not currently contracted to a domestic club. Jane left Italian club Sassuolo in June and has not yet found a new team.
South Africa will play Denmark on 25 October and England on 29 October.
Jane’s absence follows an earlier injury break. Her only recent national duty was the Olympic qualifiers against Nigeria.
Coach Desiree Ellis is using the European games to prepare for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).
“We’re getting ready for the 2025 Wafcon, and we’re glad to face top teams,” Ellis told Safa media.
“Denmark will help us work on our strengths and weaknesses. England, being European champs, will really test us as African champs.”
Jermaine Seoposenswe, Bongeka Gamede, and Noko Matlou are other key players who are missing from the squad due to fitness issues.
After Europe, Banyana will play Jamaica twice in November and December as they prepare for Wafcon.
