South Africa’s head coach Hugo Broos has dropped Stellenbosch FC star Jayden Adams from the national team, citing his bad attitude.
The 23-year-old midfielder will not feature in Bafana Bafana’s squad for the home or away Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo.
Addressing the media in Gqeberha on Monday, Broos explained his decision to leave Adams out.
“The behaviour of Jayden forced me to put him out of the team,” Broos told reporters.
“If you ask something about a player, it’s that they are professionals. So, if I feel a guy doesn’t have that attitude, then for me, it’s done.”
Without giving too much detail about the fall-out, Broos added that it was now “up to” the player to decide what would happen going forward.
“He’s not a guy who is 16, and he’s not an old player either, but if he has the attitude that he had, the only thing I can do is get him out of the group because this is not what I want from players.
“It’s up to Jayden now to think about … what he is going to do with his future.”
