KZN news bites: Umngeni-Uthukela Water tender manager assassinated

uPhongolo – A manager of Umngeni-Uthukela Water, responsible for tenders, was assassinated and dumped in uPhongolo, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.The senior supply chain management official was based in Richards Bay, and his body was found dumped in the early hours of Monday in uPhongolo, almost two hours away. Umngeni-Uthukela Water spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo confirmed the manager’s murder and said it had been reported to the police. “We cannot divulge any further details about the incident until the colleague’s next of kin have been notified, he said. 

Matimatolo – Police are investigating three counts of murder and one of attempted murder following an incident in which four people aged 60, 33, 12 and six were allegedly shot in Mbulwane on 3 October. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said two women and a six-year-old girl were declared dead at the scene, while the 12-year-old girl was rushed to a nearby hospital with gunshot injuries. “The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage, and a search for the suspects is underway,” Netshiunda said. 

Port Shepstone – A police constable allegedly killed his girlfriend after he found her sleeping with another man. The constable, stationed in Port Shepstone, was visiting his girlfriend when he arrived unannounced and found her with another man. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “It is alleged that he shot and killed his girlfriend and also shot the guy she was with. The guy is still alive and was taken to hospital. The constable drove to Port Shepstone, where his vehicle collided with a truck.” The truck driver was slightly injured, a pedestrian was fatally injured, and the constable was critically injured.
