Two sisters from Daveyton that were taken by armed men on Tuesday are now home safe after the kidnappers demanded R4-million from their dad, a pastor and businessman.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the girl, aged 13 and her sister, 23, were taken to hospital for check-ups.

“The suspects have not been arrested and investigations are underway. Anyone with formation can contact the police on 08600 10111,” she said.

On Monday, men grabbed the sisters from a park near their home and drove off.

Their aunt, who cannot be named to protect the victims’ identities, told Scrolla.Africa: “The children are still traumatised from the ordeal; for now, we are happy that they were not physically harmed and returned home alive.”

The family couldn’t sleep while the girls were missing.

“We didn’t know how we were going to raise the R4-million ransom they demanded. Their father considered selling his SUV car. Fortunately, they were released before the car was sold,” she said.

The family doesn’t know why the girls were kidnapped and will try to find out.

“We are pleading with the police to find the perpetrators and for the courts to hand a lengthy sentence,” the aunt said.

“We have identified in the media that there are cases of kidnappings for ransom in the country, and this needs to be stopped through harsh sentences.”
