South African gospel singer Solly Moholo, 65, passed away on Wednesday while in a hospital in Botswana.
The news was confirmed on his official Facebook page and tributes to the singer continue to pour in on social media.
Moholo, whose real name was Solomon Molokoane, was in Botswana for the pre-launch of his upcoming album, Wubani O zo Pepeza.
After performing very well and being warmly received by fans in Botswana, he fell ill and was rushed to hospital on Sunday, where his condition initially showed signs of improvement.
The Molokoane family announced his passing on Wednesday with great sadness.
They said in a statement: “He will be sorely missed. May his laughter continue to echo the walls of heaven. Let us remember him fondly for the healing music he gave us over the years.”
Fans commented on the post with sadness and disbelief:
“RIP legend, we have lost a hero,” said one.
Another posted: “It’s so sad, may the soul of our legendary gospel musician rest in peace.”
The gospel legend will be deeply missed and remembered for his healing music, which touched the lives of many over the years.
His family has requested privacy as they mourn and prepare for his burial.
The date for his memorial and funeral will be announced soon on all his official social media platforms.
