On Sunday, social media was abuzz with rumours that popular radio personality, Penny Ntuli, had died after being trapped in the snow on the N3 toll near Van Reenen’s Pass since Friday.
These claims were dismissed by her family.
In a TikTok video, a relative who had been travelling with Ntuli confirmed that she had shown signs of hypothermia on Saturday evening — a condition where the body’s temperature drops below 35°C.
They were travelling to KwaZulu-Natal for a family funeral.
“Penny started feeling unwell [Saturday] evening, so we turned on the car heater. By morning, when we could finally move, her condition worsened, and she felt extremely cold to the touch. We took her to her mother’s house; she’s not well, but she’s alive,” said the relative, sharing the update on Penny’s TikTok account.
Meanwhile, a woman reportedly died from hypothermia on Saturday after being stranded in the snow overnight.
She collapsed at a Merrivale shopping centre after the taxi she was in stopped for refreshments. Sadly, she was declared dead at the hospital.
