Western Cape police have arrested Siyabonga Kholakele, 29, and Yanele Mangweni, 32, in connection with the murder of a 64-year-old woman in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.

The woman was shot and killed in her shack in Wallacedene on 20 August when Kholakele and Mangweni approached her, pretending to buy meat.

They followed the victim into her home and shot her in the head.

The police offered a R100,000 reward for information leading to their capture and shared their photos with the public.

On Wednesday, after a three-week search, the two men were arrested.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said Kholakele and Mangweni were caught on a farm in Klapmuts during a takedown operation.

They were found with an unlicensed firearm linked to a recent house robbery in Kraaifontein.

The two face charges of murder and house robbery and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court. Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges.

A resident, speaking anonymously, said the community should sign a petition to prevent the pair from getting bail.

“They don’t deserve bail. The woman they killed was trying to support her family,” said the resident.

“The victim was targeted because she couldn’t pay a protection fee demanded by the suspects. They deserve to rot in jail.”
