US – Music star Sean “Diddy” Combs was denied bail for the second time as he faces serious charges, including sex trafficking, drug possession, and firearm offences. A US judge ruled that Combs could be dangerous and might try to influence witnesses if released. Combs pleaded not guilty, and his lawyers offered a $50-million bail deal with home monitoring, but the judge refused, citing Combs’ history of intimidating witnesses.
Zimbabwe – In rural Zimbabwe, people like Loveness Bhitoni rely on collecting baobab fruit to survive when droughts destroy their crops. While the demand for baobab as a health food is growing worldwide, local harvesters earn very little. Even though the industry could be worth $10 billion by 2027, many harvesters face tough working conditions and poor pay, hoping to one day benefit from the products made from the fruit they collect.
Russia – During Russia’s large-scale military drills “Ocean-2024,” President Vladimir Putin discussed strengthening military ties with China. The exercises involved 90,000 troops and 500 ships and planes, demonstrating the growing alliance between the two nations. China’s involvement in drills near Japan and Alaska has raised concerns in the US, which accuses China of supporting Russia’s military—a claim China denies, stating that it remains neutral.
