eThekwini – KZN’s MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has instructed eThekwini’s executive committee to reverse its decision to suspend deputy city manager Sibusiso Makhanya. Buthelezi stated that only the council has the authority to suspend senior managers and gave the executive committee 72 hours to cancel the suspension.
Ballito – The DA has mixed feelings about building a new palace for the Zulu king. While it could boost the economy and tourism on the North Coast, the DA expressed concern that the project is not funded and could further strain KwaZulu-Natal’s struggling economy. The DA suggested that the Zulu monarchy should explore ways to generate its own income, similar to the British royal family.
Melmoth – The Mthonjaneni Local Municipality has clarified that only one out of the 33 people who appeared in court for issuing fake driver’s licences was an employee at its testing centre and she was arrested in November last year. The suspects were reportedly charging R2,500 to issue illegal licences.
eThekwini – eThekwini’s electricity unit will be undergoing a technical upgrade this weekend, which will cause some services to go offline. These include the prepaid electricity system, the call centre, the city’s mobile app, and the online system for reporting faults.
Mtubatuba – The IPF has honoured its late KwaZulu-Natal treasurer, Qhina Mkhwanazi, who passed away on Tuesday. The party praised Mkhwanazi for his deep knowledge of Zulu culture and his significant role in supporting King Goodwill Zwelithini and the late king’s prime minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
