Pietermaritzburg – The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has created a temporary task team to investigate delays in 38 projects across KwaZulu-Natal worth R100-million. The team will also focus on paying contractors who stopped work because they had not been paid. Last week, three senior officials, including the chief financial officer and head of the supply chain, were suspended. The department head was also suspended recently.
eThekwini – The ANC Youth League in eThekwini is asking unemployed young people to join them on Wednesday,18 September, at Durban City Hall to submit their CVs to municipal officials. This is after the municipality failed to respond within seven days to a memorandum about unemployment.
Melmoth – Businesses in Melmoth have been warned to prepare for a power outage on Wednesday as the Mthonjaneni municipality temporarily turns off electricity to fix important power infrastructure.
KwaDukuza – The DA in KwaDukuza is criticising the municipal manager, Nhlanhla Mdakane, for rejecting a request to make public the records used to hire Thembela Nxumalo as the executive director for civil engineering. DA councillor Privi Mahan says this shows a lack of transparency, and they want the hiring process to be made clear.
Mtubatuba – The EFF has offered condolences to the IFP after the passing of provincial treasurer Qhina Mkhwanazi, who was also a councillor in Mtubatuba. The EFF praised Mkhwanazi’s important role in politics and the respect he earned.
