US – Hip-hop icon Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York City on federal charges related to a sex trafficking investigation. The charges, tied to raids on his Los Angeles and Miami properties, remain sealed. Combs is facing multiple lawsuits for sexual assault and abuse, many stemming from a 2023 lawsuit filed by his ex-partner, Cassie Ventura. His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, insists Combs is innocent.
China – David Lin, a 68-year-old pastor wrongfully imprisoned in China since 2006, has been released and returned to the US. Lin, jailed on contract fraud charges he denied, was part of a broader crackdown on independent religious practices. His release followed years of diplomatic pressure from the Biden administration, which continues to seek the release of two other Americans still held in China.
England – Prince Harry received over $10 million from a trust fund set up by his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, as he turned 40. The fund, established in 1994, was shared between Harry and his brother, Prince William. The inheritance was designed to pass down part of the Queen Mother’s estate. Harry celebrated his milestone birthday with a party hosted by Meghan Markle in California.
US – Miley Cyrus is being sued for copyright infringement, accused of copying Bruno Mars’ 2012 hit When I Was Your Man in her Grammy-winning 2023 song Flowers. Tempo Music Investments, which owns part of Mars’ song, claims both tracks have a similar chorus, melody, harmony, and lyrics. Neither Mars nor Cyrus has commented on the lawsuit. Cyrus won her first Grammy for Flowers earlier this year, after two decades in the industry.
Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe has approved the killing of 200 elephants to address food shortages caused by the worst drought in decades. The country’s elephant population of 84,000 far exceeds its capacity, creating conflicts with humans. Environment Minister Sithembiso Nyoni said the killings will help control the population and provide food to struggling communities.
