Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal.

Pietermaritzburg – The provincial public works department has suspended three senior officials over corruption allegations. The officials are Z. Zondi, the director of supply chain management; Z. Dlamini, the chief financial officer; and Z. Pfute, the acting deputy director-general for infrastructure management and technical services. This follows the recent suspension of the department head, Siboniso Majola.

Umlazi – Bhamuza Mnyandu, founder of the Amadelangokubona Business Forum, denied taking protection fees from informal township traders. He said his forum is against this practice and is ready to help the police catch those responsible. Mnyandu also said he is not hiding and doesn’t fear death, adding that his bodyguards are for his safety as a businessman.

Newcastle – The mother of Mbuso Kubheka, an ANC hero, has passed away after a long illness. The ANC region in Newcastle is named after Kubheka, but before the 29 May elections, his mother criticised the ANC for using his name without the family’s permission.

Nongoma – Acting municipal manager Nhlakanipho Zulu and acting chief financial officer Brian Dube are still in their positions despite a court case trying to remove them. The provincial cooperative governance and traditional affairs department says they were appointed despite not being qualified for the jobs.
