Seven people have been killed in the Highflats area of KwaZulu-Natal. Among the dead are three children, one just four years old.

The victims were reportedly seated on a couch and shot in the head. The reason for the cold-blooded slaughter is not yet known.

The KZN Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that children were among the victims.

Premier Thami Ntuli has called on the police to thoroughly investigate and find those responsible.

‘We are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone in KwaZulu-Natal. Our thoughts are with the families affected by this terrible event,’ said Ntuli.

Ntuli and the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi paid a visit to the Khambule family on Thursday morning.

The gunmen are still on the run.
