Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos wants his team to secure an early spot for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

South Africa is in Group K, along with Uganda, South Sudan, and Congo-Brazzaville.

The team starts their qualification journey against Uganda at Orlando Stadium on Friday and then plays South Sudan on Tuesday.

Broos is aiming to win both games and the two matches in October against Congo.

“We are confident and believe in ourselves to start the 2025 Afcon qualifiers strong,” he said.

Broos spoke about the importance of a good start.

“When you start well, it puts pressure on the other teams. We have the quality and status now as one of the best teams in Africa. We need to keep that up by getting good results in the next few months.”

Broos wants six points from the two upcoming games. If Bafana Bafana wins all four games in September and October, they will qualify for Afcon 2025 with two matches still left to play.

However, Broos is careful not to underestimate their opponents.

“We have the quality and confidence, but we must not underestimate Uganda and South Sudan. They are strong teams with good players.”

Captain Ronwen Williams and vice-captain Percy Tau are unavailable, but Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane will captain the team for these matches.
