Rulani Mokwena’s tenure as Wydad Casablanca coach got off to a losing start as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Maghreb Fez in the opening match of the Botola Pro League.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss believes that Wydad are “swimming against the tide” after Hamza El Janati helped the hosts to victory from the penalty spot.

“I’m sad, I don’t like losing. I’m a very bad loser,” Mokwena said per iDiski Times.

“A good opponent in a difficult stadium, so congratulations to the opponents. That’s the most important thing we can say, congratulations to the opponents.”

Mokwena said that he was happy with the way the team performed and that it would take time to gather some momentum.

“It was a difficult game. In the second-half we played a lot better but we were good. The fans’ pain is our pain, we know what the club is going through. It’s been a difficult two seasons and we are swimming against the tide.”

“But we knew that before we came here. It’s a process and that’s why we signed a three-year contract, isn’t it? It’s a project and we want to be here, fulfill it and leave this club better than we found it. And we will do it.”
