Arne Slot’s first game against the enemy was a memorable one as the Reds beat the Red Devils 3-0 on Premier League super Sunday.
Liverpool converted all three of their shots on target with Luis Diaz at the double in the first half before Mohamed Salah finished one off in style to add to his two assists.
The visitors started brighter and had a goal disallowed by VAR early on. The offside call switched the momentum back towards the hosts, but half an hour later it would shift back for good.
It could well have been a wider margin of defeat for United, who have now lost three of their last five home league games against their biggest rivals.
The Reds’ start to the season continues to get even brighter, with Slot’s troops the only side in the league yet to have conceded a goal.
The Dutch boss is the first Liverpool manager to win his first meeting with United since Bob Paisley did it almost five decades ago.
In the earlier games, Alexander Isak left it late as Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at St James’ Park while Chelsea could only manage a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
The league will now break for the season’s first international break, with Manchester City and Liverpool leading the pack with three wins from three.
