Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana is set to rub shoulders with some of the world’s most celebrated players after FCSB were drawn with Manchester United in the Uefa Europa League.
FCSB will host the Red Devils in the league phase and will also face Rangers, FC Twente, PAOK, Qarabag, Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, FK RFS and Olympiacos.
Ngezana’s side dropped to the Europa League after being knocked out of the Uefa Champions League by Sparta Prague.
After being beaten by the Czech giants, FCSB then saw off LASK 2-1 on aggregate in the play-offs for a league phase spot.
It is a dream start to the season for Ngezana who won the Romanian league title last term.
Although FCSB could not reach the league phase of the Champions League, they have another opportunity to show their worth in the Europa League.
A blockbuster encounter awaits them against Premier League giants Manchester United.
They meet the Old Trafford side at a time when Erick ten Hag is keen to atone for last season’s disappointing run in the Premier League.
Former Kaizer Chiefs star Ngezana becomes the first player whose side has reached the later stages of a European tournament after Percy Tau participated in the Champions League with Club Brugge during the 2029/20 season.
Regular football with FCSB has seen Ngezana returning to the Bafana Bafana squad and is part of the squad to face Uganda and South Sudan in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
