The three accused, Aphiwe Rawutini, Sinobom Ntyintyi, and Someleze Dyani, appeared in court on Monday.  They were arrested in July as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragedy which claimed the lives of 21 young people.

Three men accused of stealing the belongings of the victims of the Enyobeni tavern tragedy have been denied bail in the East London Magistrate’s Court.

A fourth accused, a minor, was released into the custody of his parents and will be dealt with in terms of the Children’s Act.

National Prosecuting Authority provincial spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said the three will be back in court again on 15 September.

The arrests are a sequel to the investigation which started immediately after the reported deaths of 21 children in the tavern.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the death of the 21 young victims has yet to be established.
