3 Downs Stars & Tau In CAFCL Team Of The Week

Despite their elimination from the CAF Champions League, three Mamelodi Sundowns players have made it into the competition’s Team of the Week along with Percy Tau.

The latter booked a place in the final after his Al Ahly side beat ES Tunis 1-0 in the second leg through a goal by Hussein El Shahat following a brilliant assist by the Bafana Bafana winger.

While Al Ahly progressed 4-0 on aggregate, Sundowns – who were widely regarded as the favourites in this year’s competition after beating Al Ahly 5-2 during the group stages – failed to book their spot in the final.

Their 2-2 draw with defending champions Wydad saw them drop out on the away-goal rule, becoming the first ever side to depart the competition unbeaten.

Despite their exit, goal scorers Themba Zwane and Peter Shalulile were named in the CAFCL Team of the Week, as was midfield-engine Teboho Mokoena.

Tau was one of three Al Ahly players alongside goalscorer El Shahat and defender Mohamed Abdelmonem.

Meanwhile, Wydad have four players in the team, namely Youssef El Motie, Arsene Zola, Ayoub El Amloud and Yahya Jabrane.
