A total of 12 goals have been scored in the opening four matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with co-hosts the United States emerging as the biggest winners so far.
The USA, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, kicked off their Group D campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Paraguay to move to the top of the standings. The Americans are grouped alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey, who will face each other in their opening match on Sunday morning.
In Group B, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina played to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture. Their group rivals, Qatar and Switzerland, are scheduled to meet tonight at 9pm.
The official opening matches of the tournament on June 11 in Group A produced five goals. Bafana Bafana suffered a 2-0 defeat to co-host Mexico, while South Korea edged Czech Republic 2-1 in the early hours of June 12.
Five more matches from various groups are scheduled for Sunday, June 14. The only African nation in action will be reigning African champions Morocco, who face five-time world champions Brazil in Group C. The group’s other fixture will see Haiti take on Scotland.
In Group D, Australia will test their strength against Turkey, while Germany take on Curaçao in Group E.
There will be only one match in Group F, with the Netherlands facing Japan at 9pm.
In the race for the Golden Boot, the USA’s Folarin Bobadilla currently leads the scoring charts with two goals after netting a brace in his side’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay.
