2024/25 season a write off for Nabi and Kaizer Chiefs

After 24 matches in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, Kaizer Chiefs still find themselves fighting for the top eight finish in the league.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy summed up their season perfectly. After a promising start, Amakhosi found the going tough midway into the season and might well miss out on another top eight finish this season.

Having scored through Wandile Duba in the first half, it looked as if Kaizer Chiefs would earn their ninth league win of the season but it wasn’t to be. Given Msimango’s own goal late in the game saw Nasreddine Nabi’s men settle for a point.

After the match, Chiefs coach Nabi once again blamed the lack of finishing as the downfall of his team.

“It’s true that as well as the opportunities we got was through our pressing, timing, it’s what we worked on to prepare for this opponent, I’m tired of repeating myself on the chances we missing,” he said on SuperSport TV.

Another tough season for Kaizer Chiefs in the league

“We should have scored more than one goal – we gave the opponents a chance to stay alive and we know they are good in set-pieces, and we tried to make changes, and we unfortunately conceded from a corner.”

“We didn’t plan to bring on Dove but when Miguel got injured, we had to sub him, we wanted to bring in George Matlou and Tashreeq Morris to bring height for Morris, the official wasn’t fast enough when we wanted to change and we then conceded,” he explained.

This season, Kaizer Chiefs had had to deal with injuries halting their progress in the league. In cup games, the Glamour Boys have impressed especially in the Nedbank Cup.

“Unfortunately, we have to deal with these injuries, there’s nothing we can do, it’s penalised us a lot lately but there’s nothing we can do but deal with it and give confidence to other players,” Nabi added.
