Kaizer Chiefs currently sit at the bottom of the 2023 DStv Premiership table, 11 points behind Orlando Pirates and a whopping 20 behind Mamelodi Sundowns – if only results from this year are taken into consideration.

Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows was already the fourth defeat of Arthur Zwane and his men this year, while they’ve only picked up one win and one draw in the league in 2023 so far.

Chiefs did beat Royal AM towards the end of January, and also picked up an extra-time win at Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup, but losses to Sekhukhune United – on the club’s birthday – AmaZulu, Sundowns and now Arrows mean the Amakhosi have the worst league record in 2023.

Even Marumo Gallants, who sit at the bottom of the overall 2022/23 log, have picked up one more point since New Years Eve, although they have also played two more league games this year already.

Sundowns have even collected a whopping 20 more points than than Chiefs after winning all of their eight matches in 2023 to reign supreme at the top of the log – having played two games more than Zwane’s men.

Sekhukhune follow in second place on the 2023 DStv Premiership log, having won five out of their seven games. They are followed by Orlando Pirates, who have picked up four wins and two defeats heading into Saturday’s Soweto Derby.

TS Galaxy and Maritzburg are somewhat surprisingly in fourth place and fifth place, with both collecting 10 points this year already to move up the overall DStv Premiership table.

Five teams, namely AmaZulu, Chippa United, Richards Bay, Gallants and Chiefs, have only picked up one win in 2023 so far.
