The 2022/23 DStv Premiership Coach of the Season has been announced during Sunday night’s Premier Soccer League awards.
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena beat Jose Riveiro and Gavin Hunt to the accolade.
Mokwena wins the award in successive seasons after sharing the accolade with Manqoba Mngqithi in 2021/22.
He took over Sundowns as sole head coach in October, when Sundowns’ leadership reshaped the club’s technical team.
Mokwena lead Sundowns to their sixth successive DStv Premiership title, winning it with a record-breaking seven games to spare.
He is still unbeaten in 20 league games as head coach, winning 14, including the first 11, and drawing six.
The award is based on performances in the DStv Premiership, and it doesn’t include the achievements in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup, with both trophies being won by Jose Riveiro, who also steered Orlando Pirates into second place.
Hunt also had a great campaign, leading SuperSport United into third place and back into the CAF Confederations Cup.
Note:All nominations and voting were done by a judging panel comprising of football journalists, analysts, and commentators.
