Baroka FC are set to host their first official Motsepe Foundation Championship match at their new stadium this coming weekend, and 2000 fans will witness its historic debut.
The relegated side will welcome Uthongathi FC at the Baroka Global Village on Sunday at 15:00.
This is the first match for Bakgaga since their demotion from the DStv Premiership at the end of last season.
The club has now relocated from the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, where they have been playing their matches since their promotion in 2016.
They move to the new precinct in Lebowakgomo, 50km away from Limpopo’s capital city, Polokwane.
“The facility is ready to host 2 000 spectators,” club Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele told FARPost.
“I am so excited. It is like I will be having my firstborn on Sunday. You know when you are waiting for your first born? This is the feeling I have,” said Mphahlele describing the feeling of being the first club in South Africa to have its own stadium facility.
“It’s not easy, it’s difficult, but we have made it, and we are happy to have our own private stadium. This is history in South African football, I am sure. There is no team that owns their stadium, so we will be the first ones to own a stadium.
“So that to us is wonderful. I don’t have enough words to describe how I feel. But I am excited. If supporters respond well, we are not going to waste time to increase the capacity. We will increase the capacity speedily.
Tickets for the match will be sold at computicket, and the club confirmed that no tickets will be sold at the venue.
