11-year-old girl from Phoenix commits suicide

The family and neighbors of an 11-year-old girl from Phoenix who was found dead on Friday are still in shock and can’t understand why the girl would kill herself.

On Friday, neighbors found Reneece Taylor Parasuraman, a Grade 5 student at Stonebridge Primary School, hanging from the rafters by her mother’s punjabi scarf.

Reneece and her 3-year-old sister Renae Naidoo were left alone at home while their parents were at work. The kids usually went to creche while their mother, Ronell Parasuraman, went to work, but that day they were kept home because of the weather.

Reneece’s body was found by Ajit Jagathpal, a neighbor, who said he was traumatized by what he saw.

“We keep the key to the house and keep an eye on them. They could always get out through the back door, which was always open. I saw both of them in the morning. I contacted Reneece around 12:45 until around 13:15. No one answered, so I went to see how they were doing. Renae was crying when I opened the door. When I went upstairs, Reneece was hanging. She used a barstool and a stack of bedding to get up to the rafter.

Jagathpal said, “A friend of her stepfather came up behind me and cut the scarf.”

The spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, Gareth Naidoo, confirmed that they were there.

“There was nothing that could be done to save the child’s life, so it was decided that she had died. “The community was angry and couldn’t understand how a girl her age could kill herself,” Naidoo said.

On the other hand, social media has been filled with rumors of wrongdoing.

He said that the rumors were not true.

He said, “No one could get into the house, so nobody could have done anything.”

Parasuraman said she couldn’t believe that her child had died.

“When I left for work, she said goodbye, kissed me, and waved. My child was fine in every way. A friend of my husband called me at work. I passed out when he told me what had happened.

“A friend of my husband said that she took her last breath when they cut the rope from around her neck.

“I don’t think this is what my child meant to do. I think she saw it somewhere and wanted to try it, but by the time she figured out what she had done, it was too late. My daughter was happy, quiet, modest, and a great big sister. I couldn’t think of anything that made her unhappy, except that we didn’t have electricity. She said she was looking forward to getting it fixed, though.

Paramsuraman also didn’t believe that anyone was up to no good.

The principal of Stonebridge Primary School, Logie Govender, said she was very sad.

“For her age, Reneece was polite and wise. On Cultural Day, she looked so pretty that I took a picture of her. “This is terrible,” Govender said.

Kwazulu-Natal police said that an inquest docket had been opened at the Phoenix police station. Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, a spokesman, said, “No foul play was thought to have happened.” – PressReader
