A devastating road traffic accident in Olifantsfontein, Ekurhuleni, has resulted in the deaths of two people, including a child under the age of 12.
On Friday, 20 March 2026, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) responded to a head-on collision involving an Audi and a Toyota Avanza at the intersection of Olifantsfontein Road and South View.
The driver of the Avanza and a young girl, aged between 10 and 11, sustained fatal injuries and were tragically declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
A 16-year-old female passenger, who was also in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Thembisa Tertiary Hospital for emergency medical intervention.
Following the crash, the 30-year-old driver of the Audi was subjected to a breathalyser test, which returned a reading of 0.64.
He was immediately arrested and is set to face a series of serious charges, including culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
