Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise has now added his voice to the conversation, offering a measured take on a race that still feels wide open.

TEKO MODISE NAMES ORLANDO PIRATES STAR AND MAMELODI SUNDOWNS DUO
Speaking in a video shared online, Modise admitted the decision is far from straightforward, especially with players hitting form at different stages of the campaign.
“My candidate for Footballer of the Season right now…I honestly don’t have a long list,” Modise said on video shared by @GrectchenNdou on X.
“The difficulties of being Footballer of the Season people forget what you did in the first round, they just remember what you did in the second round.”
“As things stand Rele [Relebohile Mofokeng] has had a good 2026. But the players that have been consistent is Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena. But Rele’s numbers are crazy. He is a player you can’t forget,” Modise added.
Orlando Pirates’ Mofokeng has delivered 11 goals and 8 assists in 34 games. At Mamelodi Sundowns, Modiba made 34 appearances with 7 assists. Meanwhile, Mokoena has been the engine in midfield with 37 appearances, contributing 5 goals and 1 assist.
SIYANDA NDLOVU AT GOLDEN ARROWS
“I hope Siyanda Ndlovu comes back, Arrows start winning games, and his numbers improve, it will be a very good conversation,” the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns captain continued.
Ndlovu has made a significant impact at Golden Arrows despite having fewer appearances than the others. In his 19 games, he has scored 4 goals and laid 8 assists.
“So I Modiba, Mokoena is also there, based on the consistency in all the competitions that Sundowns played. Rele also had a great 2026, let’s see how he ends the calendar,” Modise concluded.
