Singer K. Michelle talks about her relationship with R. Kelly: ‘I loved him’

Singer K. Michelle has never been one to be coy or shy away from the truth. She sat down for a chat with media personality and blogger Jason Lee and inevitably touched on her previous relationship with R. Kelly.

K. Michelle (44), whose full name is Kimberly Michelle Pate, has previously spoken about her ‘dysfunctional’ relationship with Kelly (59).

In an Essence Magazine interview in 2020, she said that she felt trapped while in the relationship because she felt like her career hinged on her presence in his house, but her stay in his house meant no contact with her family. She eventually left and lost all contact with Kelly.

But now she opened up another dimension to their connection while speaking to Lee.

“Were you and R. Kelly ever intimate?” Lee asked.

“Oh, yeah, totally. I loved him,” K. Michelle responded.

“Really? Have you ever said that?” Lee was surprised.

“I loved Robert Kelly, I loved him,” she responded.

“The only question I have about R. Kelly is ‘Have you ever written him a letter?’” asked Lee.

“No, you being shady,’ said the Can’t Raise A Man singer.

For a moment, the two veered off to talk about Kelly’s crimes and the people around him who should be held accountable along with him.

But they quickly get back on the subject.

“I saw this whole blog that said he beat me up so bad… Robert didn’t hit me, I didn’t go through an abusive Rob… my truth with Robert Sylvester Kelly, Robert Kelly always saw me as nothing… I might have loved him, but he didn’t see me as nothing more [than] motivation for writing. I wasn’t the woman he wanted, even though I wanted him.”

“Did you?” asked Lee.

“I did. Robert is completely wrong with all the things, but those people around him never corrected him. That’s not an excuse, Jason, because I’m a woman advocate…” K. Michelle said.
