Pirates coach backs Maswanganyi for bigger role
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes Patrick Maswanganyi can step up in the wake of Relebohile Mofokeng’s departure.
Maswanganyi played a key role in Pirates’ 3-0 win over Chippa United on Sunday, providing the assist for Ghampani Lungu’s opening goal. The midfielder has also impressed in the MTN8 this season.
Ouaddou believes Maswanganyi has the quality to become an important creative player for Pirates. “He can really be the link between the defenders and the strikers,” Ouaddou said.
The coach also believes Maswanganyi can contribute more goals. “He’s able to feed in the last third, but he’s somebody who is able to score as well,” he added.
Ouaddou says Maswanganyi has worked hard in training and understands what is expected of him. The coach also highlighted the midfielder’s opportunity following Mofokeng’s departure.
“With the departure of Rele, he has a big space there to play and a very big role to play for our club,” Ouaddou said.
