Kaizer Chiefs visit Kruger United at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
The newly promoted club could generate between R3 million and R4.5 million in gate revenue as thousands of Amakhosi supporters are expected to attend the historic fixture.
KRUGER UNITED EYE FINANCIAL BOOST
Kruger United secured promotion after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season. The club will now make its Betway Premiership debut against one of the country’s biggest clubs.
A crowd of at least 30,000 supporters is expected at the 45,000-seat Mbombela Stadium. Adult tickets are selling for R100, while children under the age of 12 pay R80.
If at least 30,000 supporters attend, the club could collect around R3 million in gross ticket sales. A near-capacity crowd could see that figure rise to about R4.5 million.
KAIZER CHIEFS BRING HUGE CROWDS
As the designated home side, Kruger United will receive the gate revenue from the fixture. However, the club will not keep the full amount. Matchday expenses will first be deducted before the final profit is calculated.
These costs include stadium hire, municipal services, floodlights, private security, ticketing commissions and Premier Soccer League (PSL) levies.
Despite those deductions, the fixture is expected to provide a significant financial boost for coach Abram Mongoya’s side.
The blockbuster encounter highlights the commercial value of hosting Kaizer Chiefs and underlines the financial rewards of competing in the Betway Premiership.
Meanwhile, Kruger United strengthened their squad with 15 new signings ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The club’s biggest arrival is Rwanda international goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, who joined on a season-long loan from Kaizer Chiefs. Heaven Sereetsi also arrived from Cape Town City FC, while experienced forward Thabang Sibanyoni and goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala completed the club’s goalkeeping and attacking reinforcements.
Kruger United also added experience at the back by signing defenders Kwanda Mngonyama, Katlego Mohamme and Thendo Mukumela.
The club further strengthened its squad with the arrivals of Shane Saralina, Sikhosonke Langa, Sidney Fakude, Tatenda Tavengwa and Phathutshedzo Musekwa.
The recruitment drive was completed by attacking players Mlungisi Zwane, Tumelo Mmakgolane, Motsie Matima and Lwanda Mbanjwa.
