  • Temperatures are set to soar across Gauteng this Easter weekend, significantly exceeding typical April averages.
  • Clear skies and high UV levels will persist from Good Friday through to Family Day.
  • Authorities are urging residents to prioritise hydration and sun protection during outdoor festivities.

Gauteng is set to bask in an unseasonably warm Easter long weekend, with a late-season heatwave forecast to sweep across the province.

From Good Friday through to Family Day, residents can expect clear skies and rising temperatures, marking a sharp departure from the usual autumnal chill.

The heat is expected to peak on Easter Sunday, with highs reaching 27°C.

A few clouds may appear by Monday, but the dry, sunny conditions are likely to remain dominant for those enjoying the bank holiday.

In light of the conditions, residents are advised to stay hydrated and apply high-factor sunscreen if spending time outdoors. Given the low humidity and dry terrain, emergency services have also highlighted an increased risk of veld fires, urging the public to exercise extreme caution with braais and discarded matches.

For those planning traditional Easter egg hunts or outdoor gatherings, the message is clear: seek shade during the hottest parts of the afternoon and ensure that pets have access to plenty of cool water.
