  • Gauteng police are investigating the murder of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria.
  • A female suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on charges of car hijacking and murder.
  • The Transport Ministry has condemned the crime and called for swift justice.

Gauteng police are investigating a case of murder following a sensitive video that has been making rounds on social media, where an e-hailing driver was mugged and killed by two suspects in the capital city.

The incident reportedly occurred during the week, but the video found its way onto social media by the weekend.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was murdered by a male and female who had requested the services of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria West. The hijacked vehicle and the body of the victim were found in Atteridgeville on the same day.

Police have urged the public and social media users not to share, forward or repost the video.

The female suspect who appears in the video has since been arrested. She is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges that include car hijacking and murder.

The transport ministry strongly condemned this act of violence and criminality that resulted in the tragic death of the driver.

“Minister Barbara Creecy and Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa have also expressed their message of condolences to the bereaved family who lost their loved one. Furthermore, they wish to reiterate that such criminal behaviour has no place in the public transport sector. They have called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure that those responsible face the full might of the law,” the statement from the ministry read.
