- Police have arrested a suspected gang leader in Cape Town for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
- Authorities say the weapons will undergo ballistic testing to determine links to other crimes.
- In a separate case, three suspects are appearing in court over allegations of facilitating illegal border crossings into Zimbabwe.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a 33-year-old gang leader who has been terrorising communities.
He was arrested in Ravensmead, Cape Town, for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Sunday, 19 April 2026.
Police spokesperson Amanda Van Wyk said four out of the five illegal firearms had their serial numbers filed off.
“All seized firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes,” she said.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Parow Magistrates’ Court soon, while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi and his son Khonsou Seba Capo Chichi, as well as François van der Merwe, are expected to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court on Monday, 20 April 2026, following their arrest on 13 April 2026.
The trio was arrested on allegations relating to the facilitation of illegal movement into Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River.
