  • SAPS Tshwane District Task Team and private security intercepted a suspected business robbery plot on 23 April 2026.
  • A high-speed chase from Pretoria to Midrand culminated in a shootout after suspects opened fire on officers.
  • One suspect was killed, one wounded and detained, and a third remains at large; two illegal firearms were seized.

Police in Gauteng successfully foiled a planned business robbery on Thursday following a coordinated, intelligence-led operation. Members of the SAPS Tshwane District Stabilisation Task Team, supported by private security partners, intercepted the suspects after receiving credible information regarding their criminal intentions.

The pursuit began in Pretoria and moved towards Midrand. When officers attempted to pull over the suspects’ vehicle, the driver accelerated, and the occupants opened fire on the police.

This initiated a high-speed chase and an exchange of gunfire that ended in the Klipfontein View area of Rabie Ridge.

During the confrontation, one suspect was fatally wounded, while a second sustained injuries and remains under police guard in hospital. A third individual managed to escape the scene on foot and is currently being sought by authorities.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, both of which had their serial numbers removed. A docket has been opened for attempted murder and the possession of illegal weaponry, with further investigations ongoing to track the remaining suspect.
