DJ Speedsta to give back to aspiring DJs

DJ Speedsta is marking his birthday with more than just celebrations.

The media personality, whose real name is Lesego Nkaiseng, has announced a new initiative through the DJ Speedsta Foundation that will see four aspiring DJs receive fully funded training.

The programme, titled DJ 101 by DJ Speedsta, will run over eight weeks and is designed to give participants both practical skills and real industry exposure.

Rather than complicating the process, Speedsta has kept entries simple.

Interested applicants are required to submit a short 30-second video introducing themselves, sharing where they are from, and explaining why they want to pursue DJing.

Submissions are being accepted via email, with the competition running until 27 April.

Winners will be announced on 4 May; the same day he celebrates his birthday, across his Up To Speed podcast and social media platforms, adding a personal touch to the initiative.

“This whole thing is called DJ 101 by DJ Speedsta,” he said. “We’re having a full workshop with industry experts.”

Even those who don’t make the final cut won’t walk away empty-handed.

Speedsta revealed that all entrants will have access to a broader learning opportunity through a DJ 101 workshop scheduled for 9 May.

The session will feature guest speakers and professionals from the music industry, offering insights into the craft and business of DJing.

From his beginnings in the Vaal Triangle to becoming a recognised figure in South African hip hop, Speedsta has built a career that stretches across radio, television, production and live performance.

With this latest move, he appears focused on giving others a similar shot, particularly young creatives who may not have the resources to break into the industry.
