  • The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) secured a provisional restraint order under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
  • Authorities seized luxury vehicles and high-value properties totalling R43.9 million.
  • The criminal case is pending at Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, with further investigations ongoing.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has successfully obtained a provisional restraint order against assets valued at approximately R43.9 million.

The seizure targets a global syndicate accused of operating fraudulent call centres in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Granted by the Gauteng High Court in February 2026, the order followed the arrest of several suspects in late January.

On Tuesday, 14 April, a multi-agency task force, including the Hawks (DPCI) and court sheriffs executed the order across various Gauteng locations.

Auctioneers have now taken possession of the assets, which will be held in storage pending the finalisation of the criminal trial and potential permanent confiscation.

The restraint covers a range of luxury movable and immovable property registered to the accused. Among the items seized are:

  • Luxury Vehicles: An Aston Martin DB9, Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG, Jaguar E-Pace, and a Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI.
  • Utility Vehicles: Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Fortuner models.
  • Real Estate: Multiple residential properties across the province, some with individual valuations exceeding R3 million.

NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago stated that the syndicate specifically targeted and groomed vulnerable individuals.

The group is alleged to have knowingly misrepresented investment opportunities, promising returns that never materialised.

The criminal proceedings at the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court have been adjourned until 4 June 2026 to allow for further investigation.

The AFU maintains that these actions are vital to ensuring that the proceeds of organised crime are successfully recovered and stripped from unlawful beneficiaries.
